So you want to be blonde!?

blondes

It's that blonde time of year again.. I am sure you have been pinning away at those pinterest boards of yours trying to decide which blonde beauty best suits you. Well what you may or may not is that being blonde isn't quite that simple. Here are a few helpful hints and tips to help you along.

Platinum Blonde
Most people think blonde=platinum. Platinum blondes are best worn by those who are in the medium to light skin tones and normally possess those yellow undertones in there skin. However if you have darker skin tones you can also rock platinum hair and have a beautiful contrast of light hair and warm skin.

Multidimensional Blondes
This choice is the most versatile with all skintones. It can create depth and texture, even making the thinnest of hair appear fuller. When choosing multiple colors be sure that they compliment eachother and are only a few shades either lighter or darker from one another.

Golden
Golden tones are extremely popular, but be careful when choosing this tone if you have neutral or yellow undertones it may wash you out or even appear too brassy. The golden tone best suits olive and rosy complexions because it gives richness and depth.

SO when you sit in your stylist' chair for your next appointment and you are choosing that perfect shade of blonde remember to consider that in order to keep those blonde locks looking their best #1 the maintenance required to keep up your color, how often you need to come in or even how many sessions you will need to get to desired style. #2 at home care and products to keep your hair healthy and rich with moisture. #3 the tones that best suit you and your skin tone. That platinum hair may look great on your best friend but you may find that a golden tone looks best on you. Pictures are key to you and your stylist achieving and understanding your wants and needs.

Happy blonding!!

AA, BB, CC, and DD creams got you feeling DiZZy??

AA creams, BB creams, CC creams and their newest alphabet member, DD creams all claim to be all-in-one creams to replace products you currently use. While DD creams are the most recent to hit the market, we’re sure they won’t be the last letter in the alphabet soup to make its way into a cream.

Tell Me More...
AA (Anti-Aging) creams claim anti-aging benefits using a hydrator and antioxidants. While these creams are good for the skin, the results can be minimal compared to professional skin care products.

BB (Beauty Balm) creams combine a moisturizer, sunscreen, primer and tint but often lack anti-aging benefits of AA creams.

CC (Color Correcting) creams are the new BB cream claiming better coverage with more skin nourishing ingredients.

DD (Dynamic Do-all) creams are the most recent to hit the market. These “dynamic do-all” products claim to combine your AA, BB and CC creams.

Oil is Attractive

-OIL CLEANSING-

How does it work?

All skin secretes oil - even dry skin!. When cleansing with oils, the chemistry rule of “like dissolves like” (which means that one substance can attract, dissolve or break down substances similar to it) you are essentially removing all the icky, dirty oil from your skin, and replenishing it with clean, nourishing and moisturizing oil.

Why does it work?

Because oil does not have any harsh chemicals or stripping suds, your skin will retain the necessary moisture. This is extremely important BECAUSE: when you strip your skin and get that “Squeaky clean” feeling, you’re basically kicking your skin’s oil production into overdrive to compensate for the moisture you’ve removed. That leads to blackheads, whiteheads, excess oil, and increased sensitivity.

How do I Oil-Cleanse?

The Lotus favorite method is as follows:
Prepare: HAVE a bottle of Beautifying Oil Composition and a washcloth ready. (if you are signed up for our Pure Privilege program you can even get one FREE on your birthday!)

1. Cleanse: No need to pre-clean or remove your makeup! Simply dampen face with warm water, pour some oil into your palm and begin applying to your skin. Massage with light to medium pressure, but gently for about 1-2 minutes. Don’t press TOO hard, you are removing NOT massaging. Save the massage for clean skin (Everything feels better when someone else does it…try KATIE’S FACIALS! YUM!)

2. Rinse: turn the hot water on and while you wait for the water to get warm, let the oil sit on your skin. Dampen your cloth and place it over your face for a moment to let the steam feel great (UNLESS you have acne or rosacea, then use tepid water to avoid exacerbating your inflammation). Let it sit for a few seconds and gently begin to wipe away all of the oil. Rinse the washcloth and repeat until your skin is free of oil and makeup. A good splash at the end feels great too!

3. Your skin is now clean and free of dirt, environmental pollutants and oils! Follow up with your favorite Aveda toner, targeted serum and moisturizer. This is a great bed time ritual!
